Holiday Villa Crete: General Info

Access to Villa Petrino Dream
There is approx. 150 metres of access road (no tarmac) leading to the villa from the main road, passable by car.

Parking
There is car parking space for several cars directly outside the villa.

Taxis
Although taxis are readily available at the airport and there is a local bus service, we recommend that our guests consider hiring a car in order to make touring the island easier and more enjoyable - we can recommend web sites to help you. In Crete you drive on the right hand side of the road. Apart from the national highway which runs along the coast from one end of the island to the other, the roads are quite narrow and twisting and not always tarmaced to our standards in the UK. However, the pace of life is much slower so you can generally relax and enjoy the magnificent views.

Local Area Information
A folder of information on the local area and its facilities is kept in the villa for the benefit of our guests.

Seasonal Operations in Crete
Crete has a climate that invites people to visit throughout the year but not all popular tourist facilities, tavernas and leisure complexes operate on a year round basis. Also, the early and late season are times when many people carry out necessary building and buildings maintenance work and this in turn can mean that some facilities are closed to the public. Religious and public holidays also have to be borne in mind.

Building & Buildings Maintenance Works
Crete is a developing tourist destination so building work can and does take place from time to time, bringing with them associated noise, etc. We cannot of course control such activities and do not always receive advance notice of when such work is to begin. However, if we become aware of an impending works and think it may affect your holiday we will notify you as soon as possible. Work being carried out by utility companies such as roads, water and power supplies is also outside our control.

Local Laws
We ask all our guests to adhere to and respect the local laws as apply in Crete and also to respect the privacy and rights of neighbours on Villa Petrino Dream.

Safety
Standards for health and safety overseas can differ from those applied here in the United Kingdom and Crete is no exception. We have taken great care to ensure that our Villa Petrino Dream complies with local safety regulations but as these may not match UK standards we have listed below particular areas of safety which guests are advised to make special note of:

Tiled floors which may be slippery when wet.

Unguarded staircases or steps, sometimes without handrails.

Roof terraces with low walls.

Glass doors and windows which may be difficult to see in bright sunshine.

Balconies and other steep drops protected by railings or barriers which small children can be tempted to squeeze through.

Swimming Pool Safety
Children must at all times be properly supervised in and around the swimming pool area.

Water and Electricity
The supply of electricity and water in Crete is not as efficient as in the UK. Supplies can be erratic, usually due to breakdown or low rainfall though any water cuts as such rarely last for more than a few hours. The use of solar power and water storage tanks means you should never really be without water.

Wildlife
Goats and sheep roam free on the island of Crete and therefore they may appear in the area from time to time. Cats and dogs are also more commonly seen roaming around. Mosquitoes and other insects are common in a warm climate such as on Crete and our advice to guests wishing to minimize the attraction of insects is to keep all areas free from food debris and general litter.

Travel insurance
This is an important factor for anyone taking holidays abroad and you should ensure that you have the correct level of insurance cover to suit your needs for a holiday trip to Crete.

Lost Property
We cannot accept responsibility for any items left behind by guests. However, we will always try our best to locate anything you notify us of and the cost of repatriation must be borne by you, the holidaymaker.
